Egbin Power Plc, a member of the Sahara Power Group, unveiled 20 buggies and 500 bicycles for usage by staff members within its facility to reduce carbon emissions and to protect the environment.

The unveiling was done on Tuesday, 13^th October 2020. Speaking at the event, the Chairman, Board of Directors, Egbin Power Plc, Temitope Shonubi, said the company will promote clean energy, healthy living, safety, environmental sustainability, productivity and excellent performance.

He lauded the Federal Government’s effort to encourage the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas and Compressed Natural Gas in vehicles. He said the company will promote the use of electric vehicles in Nigeria in line with the Government’s efforts to switch to alternative energy.

He also noted that the company has the capacity of evacuate at least 860 megawatts of power but it is currently evacuating about 500 MW.

According to a statement by the company, every walk-to-work and bike-to-work activity as well as riding on the electric buses within the facility would prevent the emission of 3.78 metric tonnes per day of carbon dioxide from about 150 cars within Egbin and 1379.7 metric tonnes every year.

“Once the TCN (Transmission Company of Nigeria) can evacuate the power we are generating; it simply means that there will be more power out there.”
