The Algerian Minister of Energy, Abdelmadjid Attar, announced that the country acceleration of access to energy in “gray areas.” These are isolated localities that are lacking access to basic infrastructure in regions across Algeria.
He made this known during a visit to the Wilaya of Illizi. The Minister said those gray areas will have improved access to gas and electricity. He said the country plans to speed up the electrification and gas supply to these places.
This move is part of the government’s priorities to promote the implementation of development projects within the framework of the government in these regions. He also noted that the necessary funding for the timely completion of the projects will soon be made available.
He said according to data collated by the Algerian Ministry of Energy, 8,000 gray areas lack access to electricity and gas. The gray areas of Algeria are isolated localities where basic infrastructure is either insufficient or completely absent.

“It is urgent to materialize all the connection projects to the electrification and natural gas supply networks, particularly for the benefit of gray areas, as levers of development and improvement of the living environment of the citizen.”
“A substantial envelope will be devoted to the wilaya of Illizi to implement these projects as soon as possible in order to consolidate the rate of energy coverage across the territory of the wilaya.”
