The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) announced on Thursday 9th July 2020 that there has been an increase of 19.14% in the average daily natural gas supply to power plants in April 2020, which translates to 788 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscfd), which is equivalent to power generation of 2,873 megawatts (MW).
This was made known in a signed statement by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the National Oil Company, Dr Kennie Obateru, in the Corporation’s Monthly Financial and Operations Report (MFOR) for April 2020.
The report stated that a total of 226.51 billion Cubic Feet (BCF) of natural gas was produced in April 2020 with an average of 7,786.17 million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (mmscfd) per day. This figure means there was a 3.73% increase of 226.51 BCF in comparison to the output of March 2020. 136.44BCF of gas was commercialised in April consisting of 36.99 BCF for the domestic market and 99.45 BCF for the export market.
According to the report, from April 2019 to April 2020, 3,982.91 BCF of gas was produced indicating an average production of 7,587.18 mmscfd per day during that time.
The report also stated that Period-to-date production from Joint Ventures (JVs) contributed about 69.57% to the total national gas production while Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs) and Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) contributed about 21.46% and 8.97% respectively.
The report also showed that in the Downstream Sector, a total of 0.94 billion litres of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) which translates to 31.37 million litres per day was supplied for April
The 47% drop in pipeline vandalism in March lasted only for that month as there were 65 vandalised pipeline points in April 2020. It said the Atlas Cove-Mosimi stretch accounted for 55 per cent, while Mosimi-Ore recorded 22 per cent and other locations make up for the remaining 23 per cent.
According to the Dr Obateru, “The 57th edition of the MFOR indicated that in April 2020, NNPC remitted the sum of N219.16billion to the Federation Account, reflecting the Naira proceeds from the sale of domestic crude oil and gas. In terms of dollar receipts, an export receipt of $193.05million was recorded in April 2020.”
