The National Hydrocarbons Company of Cameroon (SNH) announced that a new gas platform from Holland called “Sanaga 2” is being tested on the plant off Kirbi, in southern Cameroon.

The infrastructure is to contribute to the gas supply of the floating plant, Hilli Episeyo. It was installed off Kirbi, where the operating floating natural gas liquefaction unit (FLNG) was installed by Golar.

The new gas platform is part of the ongoing expansion project for the operation of the Hilli Episeyo LNG carrier. Cameroon is also negotiating with British firm Golar and Russian firm Gazprom to extend the duration of the operation of the Hilli Episeyo beyond the year operation is supposed to end which is 2026; one made possible by the government’s Franco-British partner, Perenco.

Negotiations between the parties also concern the acceleration of LNG (liquefied natural gas) production, through this floating unit operated by Golar. If successful, it could revalue the LNG production in Kribi where the total quantity exported in 2019 is estimated at 1.2 million tonnes annually.

A statement from SNH read, “This platform, which integrates gas compression equipment for the development of the Sanaga Sud field, arrived in Cameroon in June 2020, from Holland. It is in the Commissioning phase (test).”

”Sanaga 2 will contribute in particular to maintaining the gas production platform necessary to supply the floating Hilli Episeyo plant, in compliance with contractual obligations, for the continuation of exports of liquefied natural gas.”
