Power, electrical equipment and automation technology Group, ABB Ltd, has secured a contract to deliver an end-to-end electrification package for Total’s LNG project in Mozambique.
The Mozambican project is to develop gas deposits found off the coast of the county. The project, which was previously operated by Anadarko, is the country’s first onshore LNG development, initially consisting of two LNG trains with a total nameplate capacity of 12.88 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to support the development of the Golfinho/Atum fields located entirely within Offshore Area 1.
CCS consortium, which comprises Saipem, McDermott and Chiyoda, was contracted by Total for Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of the LNG project. ABB is to deliver a comprehensive integrated and intelligent electrical system for the LNG project.
According to ABB, the 26-month project will culminate in a significant installed base in Mozambique for ABB and will involve collaboration across multiple ABB divisions and regions, led by ABB in Singapore. It will also integrate its electrical control and power management system alongside 110kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), medium voltage switchgear (33kV, 11kV) and low voltage switchgear.
ABB said: “Fourteen large onshore electrical houses (e-houses) or prefabricated electrical substation buildings (PESB) – specifically designed for oil and gas applications, will be built by ABB team in Singapore and transported to the Mozambique LNG Project site.”
The Global Vice President, Oil and Gas, ABB, Johan de Villiers, said: “We have optimized and customized our solutions to meet the specific technical and capital expenditure requirements of the customer. With ABB as the main original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for electrical systems, Mozambique LNG Project will benefit in terms of cost-efficiency, maintenance, service as well as upgrades and expansions.”
