Uganda’s ERA Makes no Change to Power Tariffs for the Fourth Quarter

Although there was a change in the parameters used in determining the cost of electricity, the new tariff was based on an exchange rate of Shs367.5 per dollar which was mid-rate of the Uganda Shilling against the United States Dollar as published by Bank of Uganda on August 31st.

The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) of Uganda retains the tariff paid across all customer categories for the fourth quarter of 2020 as it was in the third quarter.

The tariff schedule released by the power regulator in every quarter shows that the cost of electricity remains the same and households will enjoy the first 15 units as a subsidised rate of Shs250 before paying Shs750.9 for the rest of the units during the period.

Commercial customers will continue paying Shs645.6 per unit of electricity, medium industrial customers will continue paying Shs570.9 per unit, large industrial customers will continue paying Shs361 per unit while extra-large customers are to continue paying Shs301.7 for every unit of power used.

The Core Consumer price index considered was at 183.8 while the producer price index was 210.3. International fuel prices that was considered for the tariff this quarter increased to 45.1 compared to 25.1 for the previous quarter.
