The National Institute of Petroleum (NIP) of Mozambique has opened the country’s Sixth Licensing Round for Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production Areas. Four unique regions were used to define sixteen new territories. Five are in the Rovuma Basin, seven in Angoche, two in the Zambezi Delta, and two in Save, with a total area of more than 92,000 square kilometres.

The tender will run for ten months from the start date, with the results expected in October 2022. The tender comes about three months after the new Strategy of Concession of Areas for Exploration and Production of Hydrocarbons was approved, which lays the groundwork for ensuring continuous and systematic hydrocarbon exploration in the Mozambique and Rovuma basins, promoting national and foreign investment, and cutting the time between public tenders for concession of areas from three to two years.

Commenting, the Chairman of NIP, Carlos Zacarias said: “With this tender, we intend to assess the national petroleum potential and the resources discovered will be made available to the society to drive Mozambique’s socio-economic development.”

The Round opened on 25th November and interested parties are to do so HERE or https://bit.ly/3r4g9sg
