Global wireless well technology provider, Acoustic Data, has been awarded the contract to deploy its SonicGauge Wireless Monitoring System in a gas field project in North Africa.

The provider was contracted by a multinational oilfield services company. The technology is set to deliver real-time surface-read-out (SRO) of downhole pressure and temperature of post-frac well tests via acoustic telemetry at the project which will enable live analysis which in turn allows the subsurface teams to make fast and informed decisions regarding the field development, reducing standby time and the associated operating expenditure.

In line with local content development, Acoustic Data will hire local engineers and train their partner’s personnel to support the ongoing operations of the project. According to Acoustic Data, mobilisation of the SonicGauge technology is already underway and operation will commence in the fourth-quarter of 2020.

Commenting on the contract, the global sales director at Acoustic Data, Stephen Murphy said, “The SonicGauge’s real-time SRO will ensure fast reservoir evaluation post-frac which will allow the drilling programme to proceed without uncertainty or delay. Performing this work as part of an integrated services package is an ideal first step for Acoustic Data into the North African market. We see this as a vital region for our next stage of growth.”

The SonicGauge Wireless Monitoring System is a next-generation acoustic telemetry system that measures wellbore pressure and temperature in real time, a mandatory requirement for good reservoir management in oil & gas wells. The wireless downhole gauge systems are ideal for providing real time downhole data during drill stem testing and production well testing. The technology can also be deployed in free-flowing wells, wells equipped with artificial lift systems, and in observation wells. There is no depth limitation for the SonicGauge System as acoustic repeater stations can be used to boost the acoustic data packets to surface. Both the wireless sensors and repeaters can be run on tubing or retrofitted through tubing on our proprietary high expansion gauge hanger via traditional slickline or e-line.
