Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid M. A. Dbeibah and Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Mustafa Sanalla, met with Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi in Tripoli on Tuesday to discuss the company’s present and future investment plan in Libya.
The Prime Minister praised Eni for its contributions to health and social welfare initiatives across the country through the company’s provision of medical supplies and equipment during the pandemic. The Italian oil and gas company will be providing additional consumables aimed at increasing COVID-19 diagnostic capacity and treating severe cases.
Descalzi reaffirmed Eni’s commitment to its Libya operations, highlighting natural gas investments targeted at growing the country’s installed power generation capacity and improving energy access. Structures A&E, Bouri Gas Utilization, and Sabratha Compression at the offshore Bahr Essalam field are just a few of the offshore projects that the company is leading.
They also discussed possible collaboration in Libya’s renewable energy sector, which may help diversify the country’s energy mix while lowering carbon emissions and delivering decentralised power. The Italian conglomerate is already working on technical specifications for a photovoltaic facility with battery storage that will be built in rural areas of the country.
