The price of petrol in Kenya has increased by 5.77 Kenyan Shilling, while the prices of diesel and kerosene dropped by 3.80 and 17.31 Kenyan Shilling per litre respectively.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) said that the changes would be effective from Monday June 15th to Tuesday July 14th 2020. The Authority explained that the new pump prices reflected the changes made by the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act of 2020 that made taxes and duties part of the amount to be calculated in the Value Added Tax (VAT) for petroleum fuels.
It added that the prices for this month were derived from the average landed cost of imported petrol which increased by 31.54 percent from $188.70 per cubic metre in April to $248.21 per cubic metre in May. Diesel also decreased by 5.58 per cent from $242.13 per cubic metre to $228.62 per cubic metre, while kerosene also decreased from $262.44 per cubic metre to $126.39 per cubic metre.
