Equatorial Guinea to evaluate existing data on historic NDOTE-1 well

The Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons Equatorial Guinea, His Excellency Gabriel Obiang Lima visited the first oil well ever to be drilled onshore in Equatorial Guinea; the NDOTE-1 in the Mbini district.

He visited on Tuesday, 8th September 2020. The Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons is said to be currently evaluating existing data on the NDOTE-1 well, along with that of the adjacent offshore well, to analyse the hydrocarbon potential of the Rio Muni basin and its surroundings.

Joint efforts by the Technicians of the Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons and the local authorities of the Mbini district led to the identification of the well. It will promote drilling and exploitation of onshore prospects in the country and neighbouring countries, Cameroon and Gabon.

The evaluation is expected to trigger exploration activities that will lead to job creation and expansion of Equatorial Guinea’s oil industry’s value chain.
