According to GlobalData, India may start the operations of 118 midstream oil and gas projects from 2021 to 2025, which will account for 35% of the total upcoming midstream projects, starts in Asia by 2025.

According to GlobalData’s latest report, “Global Midstream New Build and Expansion Projects Outlook, 2021-2025 – Transmission Pipelines Dominate Global Midstream Project Starts,” transmission pipelines will account for 55 of the 118 projects set to begin operations in India, liquids storage will account for 43, LNG regasification will account for 17, and gas processing will account for 3.

Oil & Gas Analyst at GlobalData, Bhargavi Gandham, said in the report: “Being one of the rapidly growing economies in the world, India is one of the largest consumers and importers of oil and gas globally. The country is developing a robust midstream infrastructure for greater imports, transport and storage to meet the growing demand for oil and gas.”

Transmission pipeline projects would account for roughly 47% of all midstream project launches in India between 2021 and 2025. With a length of 2,757 km and a cost of $1.4 billion, the Kandla–Gorakhpur LPG pipeline is one of the most important projects. The pipeline project will supply LPG bottling plants in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, to meet India’s expanding demand for the commodity.

According to the research, liquids storage projects will account for about 36% of all midstream project launches in India between 2021 and 2025. The Chandikhol project, with a storage capacity of 30 million barrels and a cost of $941 million, is the largest of the forthcoming liquids storage facilities. The project is currently awaiting clearance and is scheduled to begin operations in 2025.

The Karwar Floating Project leads the LNG regasification projects, with a capacity of 365 billion cubic feet and a cost of $573 million. The project is currently under construction, with a projected start date of 2023.

With a gas processing capacity of 100 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), the Raageshwari II plant dominates the gas processing category. The project’s operator and 100% equity holder, Vedanta Resources Ltd, plans to begin operations in 2022. The additional projects, Dirok II and Kaza, will account for the remaining 66 mmcfd of gas processing capacity and are projected to be online between 2021 and 2025.
