Niger budgets over 5,200 FCFA to Boost Oil Production, Construct Pipeline

The Ministry of Petroleum Niger announced during a meeting at the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (CESOC) that more than 5,200 billion FCFA of investments are planned within the framework of the works of exploitation of oil in the country and the construction of the Niger-Benin pipeline.

The project is to increase the current production rate, which is currently 20,000 barrels per day by five times more to reach 100,000 barrels per day by 2021. Data from the Ministry shows that majority of the oil will be exported. The country also plans to attain 500,000 barrels per day production rate by 2025.

The drilling of about 345 boreholes, the construction of surface facilities and many others are the development works needed to commence production. About 1,200 billion FCFA is also needed for the construction of a 1980 kilometres pipeline that will connect Agadam to the port of Sémé in Benin. The pipeline construction is to generate 2,000 jobs.
