Senegal Appoints New Minister of Petroleum and Energy

A former Mines and Geology Minister in Senegal, Her Excellency Aissatou Sophie Gladima, has been appointed by the Senegalese President, His Excellency Macky Sall, as the new Minister of Petroleum and Energy.

The recent appointment is part of the president’s effort to form a team to manage the recovery of the country’s economy from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new Minister holds a doctorate in hydrogeology, applied geophysics, and hydrochemistry. She is a professor at the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar and has a background in ecology, water management and wetlands conservation.

She has served as a technical advisor on mining and hydraulics at the National Soil Institute. She has also served as President at the National Institute of Pedology; as Minister of Post, Telecommunications and ICT; and as Director of the National Agency for Applied Scientific Research.

She is to liaise closely with the president and the Managing Director of the national oil company, Petrosen, Mamadou Faye, in the discharge of her duties.
