The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced a substantial shakeup in its management in preparation for the soon-to-be-passed Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
In a statement, the Corporation said: “Other Chief Operating Officer positions in the Corporation have now been redesignated as Group Executive Directors (GEDs) in alignment with the rules of Company & Allied Matters Act (CAMA), preparatory to the new status of the Corporation as a Limited Liability Company, post-Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).”
“The repositioning also saw the disengagement of Engr. Yusuf Usman, formerly Chief Operating Officer, Gas & Power.”
Mallam Mele Kyari, the Corporation’s Group Managing Director, said the new appointments would help the firm meet Nigerians’ expectations and fulfil its goal of being a world-class energy provider of choice.
THE RESHUFFLING
Garba Deen Muhammad, a prominent Senior Management staff member who worked as the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, during the time of the former Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, has returned to his former job. Dr Kennie Obateru, who announced in a statement, will hand over the reins to him.
Dr Obateru said: “The new appointments include that of Mr. Garba Deen Muhammad, who will take over from Dr. Kennie Obateru as the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the Corporation.”
Mr Billy Okoye has been named Group Executive Director of Ventures and Business Development. Previously, he served as the Group General Manager of the Crude Oil Marketing Division (COMD).
The role of Group Executive Director, Corporate Services has been assigned to Hajia Aisha Ahmadu-Katagum. She was previously the Supply Chain Management Division’s Group General Manager.
Engr. Adeyemi Adetunji is now the Downstream Group Executive Director. He previously served as the Chief Operating Officer for Business and Ventures Development.
Mr Mohammed Abdulkabir Ahmed has been promoted to Group Executive Director of Gas and Power. He was previously the Corporate Services Chief Operating Officer.
