The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and FIRST Exploration & Petroleum Development Company Limited (FIRST E&P) have announced the arrival of the Abigail-Joseph Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit to Nigeria.

The FPSO was earlier in the Keppel Shipyard in Singapore for an upgrade, refurbishment and life extension works to meet specified standards and specifications. All of these activities were completed in record time.

Nigerian professionals were part of the successful execution of the project and they are to form an integral part of the FPSO operations team in the production phase. The FPSO is a self-propelled 274 metres long converted Suezmax trading tanker with 11 cargo storage tanks, 2 slop tanks and 6 dedicated water ballast tanks which includes fore and aft peak tanks.

The FPSO is to be deployed to the Anyala and Madu fields in Nigeria as part of the OML 83 and OML 85 fields development, the country’s first wholly indigenously executed integrated Oil and Gas project in the shallow offshore.

The FPSO system allows for oil separation, stabilisation, produced water treatment, gas treatment and compression. It can process 50,000 barrels of oil per day, produced water treatment of 20,000 barrels of water per day, handle 39 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and store 700,000 barrels in its cargo. The FPSO will be operated on behalf of FIRST E&P by YINSON.

The Anyala field (OML 83) will be developed alongside the Madu field (OML 85) through a shared production facility due to their proximity. The oil will be processed through the FPSO. The ongoing development drilling campaign in the Anyala field is focused on drilling and proving expected Oil reserves for development with seven (7) development wells already planned and approved by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).

The batch drilling from the installed Conductor Supported Platforms (CSP) in Anyala field is a novel drilling technology deployed in the Niger Delta Basin. The ongoing drilling is using Borr Drilling’s Natt rig.
