Olam Palm shall set up its plant to produce biofuel from palm oil in the southern zone of Libreville in Gabon.
The five hectares site was specifically chosen because of its easy access to the timber port and the hydrocarbon storage area. It allows easy access for importing equipment and exporting by-products from palm oil processing.
The Singaporean multinational has received all the necessary regulatory authorisations for the production of biofuel in the country. The construction and commissioning of the biodiesel plant are to provide several direct and indirect jobs.
The production of biofuel causes less pollution, and for the Gabonese government, this will give room for healthy competition in the palm oil sector and solidify the country’s orientation to preserve the environment and help the cause of climate change.
Olam Palm is “the largest sustainable producer of palm oil on a concession with a total area of 202,000 ha in Gabon.” The company also operates a consumer packaging unit with a capacity of 200 tonnes and a palm oil refinery with a production capacity of 750 tonnes per day.
