At a brief event that held at the Executive Council Chamber of the Oyo State Governor’s office in Nigeria today, the government of the state and Shell Nigeria Gas signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the laying of gas pipeline infrastructure in the state.

In attendance at the event was the Governor of the state, Seyi Makinde, the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Gas, Mr Ed. Ubong, the Deputy Governor of Oyo state, engineer Rauf Olaniyan, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, barrister Seun Ashamu, and other top government officials.

The Governor said the MoU would help the industrialisation drive by the government. The gas pipeline project is expected to run on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) bases for fifteen years before it is transferred to the government.

According to governor Makinde, he participated in the West Africa Gas pipeline and “If it is good for Ghana, it should be better for Oyo State.”

He said, “Oyo State is open for business and we try to transact our business transparently. We allow our decisions and actions to be driven by logic and data. So, we know for a fact that Shell Nigeria Gas coming here to extend the gas infrastructure to Oyo State is a decision that should have been taken a long time ago.”

The Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Gas said the drive would help the expansion of the state’s economy. He said, “Gas is the key to boosting industrialisation. I am proud that SNG is here. The vision of the governor is to see how we can rapidly industrialise the state and with a clear vision and support, we will get that done.”
