SEPLAT Group is partnering with the National Oil Company of Nigeria, The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), to build a multi-billion-naira gas plant at Asaa, Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria.

The news of the gas plant was disclosed on social media on Friday, 13th November 2020 by Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Executive Governor of Imo state. The senator assured the residents of the community that the government of the state will ensure that development is brought by the SEPLAT Group.

He promised to also ensure that beneficial projects such as hospitals, roads and schools are provided as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility. He said the company has assured him that they will employ both skilled and non-skilled workers in the organisation.

He also enjoined the community to be a good host to the company to ensure a smooth relationship between both parties. He commended the Managing Director of Seplat Group, Dr A.B.C Ojiako, for his efforts in bringing development to the host community, the state and the country at large.

The governor said, “The Imo State Government will not encourage a situation where oil companies doll out monies to the leaders of their host communities.”

“Gone are the days when oil companies collude with a few community leaders to exploit the rest of the host communities.”

The execution of the project is said to be shared 50 – 50 by SEPLAT and the NNPC.
