The Angolan National Fuel Society, SONANGOL, has contracted the businesses Vitol and Totsa to import petrol and diesel for the next twelve months, after an international public tender was issued in March this year.

According to ANGOP last Thursday, Sonangol said that Vitol, a Dutch company, will import gasoline, while Switzerland-based TOTSA will import diesel.

Following the announcement of the tender, twenty-seven (27) companies were first invited as an assurance of competitiveness under similar conditions. BP, TRAFIGURA, VITOL, GUNVOR, IDEMITSU, MERCURIA, TOTSA, GALP, and GEMCORP were the companies that submitted their proposals until 6 p.m. on April 19th.

According to the Petroleum Byproducts Regulatory Institute (IRDP), the country sold 2,782,717 metric tonnes of fuel in 2020, generating 449.4 billion kwanzas in income.

The Luanda Refinery supplied 25% of the volume sold, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company provided 3%, and the remaining 72% was imported.

Angola has an onshore liquid fuel storage capacity of about 680,012 cubic metres, of which SONANGOL owns 358,511 cubic metres (52.45%) and Pumangol owns the rest 321, 500 cubic metres (47.55%).
