Significant fresh progress has been made since the formal start of construction on the 684 km Beninese side of the Niger-Benin pipeline in the municipality of Sèmè-Kpodji last May.

Bluewater Energy, a Dutch corporation, will construct an oil loading buoy system at the port of Sèmè-Kpodji, 30 kilometres south of Cotonou. The cost of the transaction and the delivery date are unknown at this time. Once completed, the station will load tankers with Nigerien black gold for export.

Benin has taken another step toward becoming a long-term hub for crude oil exports with the award of the contract by the firm.

The buoy system is an operation that is part of the Niger-Benin pipeline building project, which will span nearly 2,000 kilometres and will export Niger’s crude oil from the port of Sèmè-Kpodji in Benin. In two years, the conduit should be finished.
