Tlou Energy has provided an update on its proposed transmission line to connect Tlou’s Lesedi Power project to the electricity grid in Botswana.

Tlou is a company that focuses on delivering power in Botswana and southern Africa through the exploration and development of gas and solar power. The major points in this update are the pre-qualification tender documents prepared and Tender advertised and documents available online.

Mott MacDonald engineering consultants have been contracted by the company to work on the detailed engineering and design of the proposed transmission line to connect Tlou’s Lesedi Power project to the electricity grid in Botswana. This also includes preparation of Pre-qualification (PQ) documents which will enable Tlou select pre-qualified bidders that will be invited to bid for the construction of the transmission line and supporting infrastructure.

The company’s release read: “As announced previously, Mott MacDonald are now working on the implementation stage of the proposed 66kV transmission line.  This includes preparation of Pre-qualification (PQ) documents with the objective of Tlou selecting a short-list of pre-qualified bidders who will be invited to bid for the construction of the transmission line and supporting infrastructure.”

These two Pre-qualification documents have been prepared:

  • Pre-Qualification of Bidders for the Design and Build contract for the Substation(s) Works.
  • Pre-Qualification of Bidders for the Design and Build contract for 66kV Overhead Transmission Line Works.

The tenders are available on Tlou Energy’s official company website. They have also been advertised in local Botswanan press. Closing date for submission is 2nd October 2020.

After the implementation stage which is scheduled for completion later this year as long as there is no delay outside the company’s control, the company will request tenders for the construction of the transmission line and substation works from successful pre-qualified bidders. Construction is expected to commence as soon as possible Subject to the receipt of acceptable tenders, available funding and on-the-ground access.
