The Executive Director of TotalEnergies Port Harcourt District, Obi Imemba, announced that the Ikike oil field development project would commission and celebrate first oil by early 2022, barring any unforeseen circumstances, at the load out of the AMD2 Module of the Ikike Development Project at Sudelettra Fabrication Yard in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.

Sudelettra Nigeria Ltd is the contractor for the AMD2 Module, which is part of the Ikike project’s Brownfield package. The project is being constructed as a satellite tie-back to the Total/NNPC JV’s Amenam-Kpono field, which is also owned and operated by the Total/NNPC JV. He added the project’s offshore components, including topsides installation, were already underway.

He acknowledged that the project helped the company create more than 30,000 employment opportunities, both directly and indirectly, and that all parts of the project were carried out in partnership with industry players and in the spirit of promoting Nigerian content.

The company’s commitment to developing a pipeline of oil and gas projects and supporting Nigeria’s additional production potential was also emphasised by the Executive Director, who added that the company was eager to use all of the lessons learned from previous projects to develop the Ikike project in a simple, cost-effective, and efficient manner.

He recalled that the Ikike project’s Final Investment Decision (FID) was done in 2019, with the cooperation of the partners, and that the AMD-2 Module began construction in 2020, weighing 250 tonnes when completed. He praised the contractor for completing the project despite the COVID-19 plague and financial difficulties, and for logging more than 500,000 manhours without any Lost Time Injury (LTI).

Mr Modestus Nwosu, Project Manager of Total Energies’ Ikike Project, acknowledged that over 44 Nigerian vendors were involved on various scopes of the Ikike project. He went on to say that the project has also followed the Board’s instructions to renovate a hostel and workshops at the Government Technical College in Port Harcourt, River State.

Engr. Simbi Wabote, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), complimented Total Energies for being a valuable partner in Local Content development since the implementation of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act in 2010.
