Last Friday, Australian explorer, Invictus Energy, announced plans to start a 2D seismic campaign in the Cabora Bassa basin in Zimbabwe in July, after it awarded the contract to Canadian company, Polaris Natural Resources, in April.
The campaign is part of the company’s second phase of exploration in Zimbabwe and it is expected to cover a linear area of about 400 kilometres. They will refine the location of the Muzarabani prospect at the Muzarabani-1 well and identify other prospects for the next drilling campaign.
According to Invictus, “Polaris has received work permits for its expatriate staff and has started mobilizing staff in Zimbabwe to start the 2D seismic campaign that is expected to arrive in the coming days. It is estimated that the seismic campaign will officially begin in July with the clearance of the lines, followed by the acquisition of seismic data. The recording equipment is currently in transit to Zimbabwe.”
The Cabora Bassa basin in Zimbabwe is considered one of the five (5) best hydrocarbon exploration areas in the world, and it is expected to change the country’s energy landscape if the research is successful.
Polaris recruited more than 100 local workers for the campaign, and a camp is to be erected before work commences.
In March 2020, Invictus signed an exploration, development and production agreement with Zimbabwe for the Cabora Bassa gas project, located in block SG 4571, which gives the company the right to enter into a twenty-five (25) years production licence at the end of the exploration periods.
